The lugs are spring loaded so while they can conform to the wrist, the idea is more that they provide tensioned travel. When your wrist is straight, the lugs should be under slight tension but still extend out from the wrist a little which keeps the watch in place without having to really tighten down the strap. Then, when you bend your wrist the lugs can bend as well to provide the extra length needed for comfort. Ideally then strap and lugs can move to match the entire range of wrist movement without the strap becoming too tight or too loose. In simple terms, super comfortable, you don't have to wear the strap tight and yet the watch doesn't rotate on the wrist.
