Just saw the nicest Laurent Ferrier I've seen in a long time! Introducing the Laurent Ferrier Classic Salon des Horlogers Limited Edition

May 05, 2022,20:19 PM

All Laurent Ferrier pieces are exquisite, but this one is exceptional!  I find this to be one of the nicest Laurent Ferrier pieces I've ever seen!  Introducing the LAURENT FERRIER Classic Micro-Rotor - Salon des Horlogers Limited Edition of 25 pieces.

Apparently it comes with two straps, a navy alligator strap and a sueded calfskin strap.  It's cased in steel!

Laurent Ferrier timepieces are well finished and this one is no exception; featuring a Côtes de Genève pattern on the bridges and the circular graining on the mainplate, the flanks are hand-drawn, the wheel
spokes are bevelled, the screw heads are polished, and the one interior angle is hand-crafted. The mirror polishing done by hand on the pawl, the balance-cock, and the micro-rotor bridge.

The movement is a self-winding FBN 229.01 calibre, equipped with a unidirectional pawl-fitted micro-rotor and offering a three-day power reserve. The movement is equipped with a silicon escapement featuring a double direct impulse on the balance. This technology developed by Laurent Ferrier enables the balance to be impelled twice per oscillation, a principle that requires two escape-wheels and an appropriately shaped lever.

I'm captured by its timelessly elegant dial and case combination.  The design is both elegant, yet casual.  This is a watch that will work well on weekdays with the power suit at the office and also on weekends with the casual outfit while strolling through vineyards.  The price, at 50,000 CHF, is no doubt steep - especially considering it's cased in steel and not gold - but that blue dial and that movement is definitely a great piece of art for the wrist!  I just hope that the people who end up acquiring this watch enjoy it, and that it doesn't end up locked in a collection of a dozen watches and is rarely used.

Thank you for reading, and as always, I look forward to reading the comments.

LF is the next Journe.

The charm of his timepieces can be appreciated only in person. The pics never do them any justice. I'll be pulling a trigger on another piece very soon... ...

Doubtful...

 By: mdg : May 5th, 2022-21:07
...as most of their models aren't very complicated for one thing...

True.

 By: Ivan5 : May 5th, 2022-21:27
However, you have LF dealing with Patek complications for a three decades plus...and this is a point in his evolution: Almost an austere simplicity joined with a sophistication which can't be replicated...

And who needs complications?

 By: patrick_y : May 5th, 2022-21:56
Complications are nice, but I can't remember the last time my perpetual calendars were all indicating the correct month, day, and date. Or if the complications were actually working. Half the time I put on a simple watch, the watch had stopped and I have ...

I get it...but just because LF worked for PP, doesn't mean he can capture that magic...

 By: mdg : May 5th, 2022-22:15
...I prefer the LF aesthetic in most cases, but collectability-wise, they're not on the same planet as FPJ.

Sorry...referring to Ivan's original comment...

...about LF as the next Journe...

I was kidding. :)))

 By: amanico : May 6th, 2022-05:29

I sort of knew that...

 By: mdg : May 6th, 2022-15:12
...but because of the structure of this forum, sometimes it's difficult (for me at least) to determine who is replying to who : (

Right.

 By: amanico : May 6th, 2022-17:33

It's impossible to argue against that, Patrick.

 By: Ivan5 : May 7th, 2022-17:00
I think we all agree implicitly, this all insanity of collecting lands us within things peculiar and geeky as opposed to utilitarian and pragmatic..😉

True!

Some people genuinely like complications. And are fascinated by them. I am fascinated too, but at the same time I can't deny the beauty of that clean dial layout. But yes, we're all a little specific about what we like! And that's great!

Ivan, You are totally on point.

 By: pptraveltime : May 5th, 2022-22:06
But that is probably will also be the reason why LF can’t get too popular. It will require a lot of watch collecting experience to understand this simplicity and sophistication.

Both on point

And slow growth has benefits and long-term stability. jmho

Beautiful watch for sure...

 By: mdg : May 5th, 2022-20:48
...but the price seems 'aggressive' for steel...

Agreed!

 By: patrick_y : May 5th, 2022-21:49
It is expensive. But then again, all Laurent Ferriers are priced highly.

Me too! Checks all the boxes!

Ahh! Someone who isn't confident with the dial.

 By: patrick_y : May 5th, 2022-21:52
Looking at the photos (I haven't seen the watch in person yet), I feel this is one of the nicest shades of blue dials on a watch from Laurent Ferrier in a long time! But of course, this two-shades of dark blue might not be appealing to everyone. And there...

Here is a superb blue...

 By: amanico : May 5th, 2022-21:58
...

Ahh. Exquisite...

I like the lack of lume!

To be honest, I didn't even notice at first.

 By: patrick_y : May 5th, 2022-22:29
At first I was so captivated by the color.

Beautiful LF

Timeless beauty

You're welcome! Thank you for commenting!

 By: patrick_y : May 6th, 2022-17:30
LF watches don't always appeal to me. And I'm finding super complex looking dials don't always appeal to me neither. Most of the time, a perpetual calendar isn't set correctly anyways. I find that simple 2-3 hand watches are more my thing now! I don't eve...

Laurent Ferrier knows how to make an appealing dial

If you're into natural escapements, this is the complete package.

Hmm. I'm not sure I know enough about his natural escapements...

 By: patrick_y : May 8th, 2022-19:09
But no doubt, this is one very special timepiece.
