I like it ...

Hi All,

I look forward to the new MB&F releases each year (just as I do the HW Opus pieces). Not all of them I love, of course, but it seems to me there is a consistent vision in many of the watches that has something to say to us. And I like timepieces that tell a complex story.

So, as usual, when the press release arrived for the HM5 and before looking at any pictures, I read through the description of the watch, the vision of the designers and watchmakers and what they were trying to put on my wrist: “epitome of the 70’s; supercars; chassis; aerodynamics; flaps; exhaust ports; dashboards; digital displays.”

And then I looked at the images and promotional video and I nodded. I like it. It’s retro, cool, and aerodynamic on the wrist and provides a twist (with the magnifying prism) on all the mechanical watches with digital displays we have seen in the last two years. It must be challenging to come up with new designs each year and I think the MB&F team have achieved something interesting and desirable again that sits well in the range of five horological machines.

I also like watches I can interact with so the little flaps are fun (and I hope durable). The polished and brushed surfaces, the grey tones, the base engraving are all thoughtfully done. And the video, particularly with the Miura, is spot on with just the right emotional note.

Personally I think the HM5 is a winner.

Andrew
