I have read through the various postings in this thread and I must say many of my thoughts
have been said repeatedly.
I have gone deep into the Independents and have totally enjoyed the experience. Thanks to the inter webs the Independents have gotten much more notoriety and I think that they will have more interest as time goes by and with it the well selected ones will maintain interest. Interest and understanding of what the independents have to offer is ever growing and may actually be valued. A classically created watch will always be serviceable. I have spoken to several Independents about it and they believe that to be true. They resist the use of new material (such as silicium) for just that reason. They see that by using traditional material and theories any watchmaker properly trained should be able to service their watches in the future.
Also I do believe that the purchase of a watch, no matter from whom, should be a personal experience to be enjoyed by the purchaser and that is the payment and investment in and of itself. I enjoy the watches that I have brought home and have enjoyed the whole process involved in working with the Independents. i treasure the relationships that have grown out of those purchases.
Buy what appeals to you and let the future generations worry about the watches' value as the value that we achieve from wearing the watch is truly invaluable.
Just my random thoughts.
Cheer.

if you look at what happens to them after Bvlgari acquired the names, sadly, you may see what could happen... Daniel Roth watches often go unnoticed on auction sites and the new pieces are not close to the level of innovation the brands had before.

...in the long run we are all dead. If you think the watch will bring you pleasure, I wouldn't waste too much time worrying about the future, since we can't really control it. It's not clear if you're more concerned about the piece maintaining value or be...
