Met Beat. Went to see him at his workshops.
I would argue this is the independent watch with one of the highest percentages of in-house handcraft well beyond Roger Smith, Kari and the likes. No CAD/CAM in sight, hand soldered lugs, Grenache type dials like Urban Jurgensen’s Alfred.

The movement design and finish is ultra minimalist. Don’t expect to see Lange 1815 levels of shine and decoration when you flip over the watch. Layout feels more Ochs and Junior or Habring-esque in my layman view, albeit at an extremely high level of hand finish.

Price point is where the challenge begins. Beat jacked up prices to close to 40k CHF as I understand, which might be too much for some. This is the thinking man’s watch in my view. It doesn’t shout expensive. It’s a truly insider’s piece and chances are you’ll never bump into another H11/12 in the open wild.

For someone with a limited budget like me though - I personally tend to gravitate towards Rexhep Rexhepi’s new Chronometre. It’s marginally more expensive but also more satisfying to look at and from a watchmaker with strong provenance and future potential.

My two cents.

Hi, I currently only have a H1 but I am circling the H11. Beat is a wonderful and very open and approachable guy. As said above, and I can only echo this, he is really serious about his craft and about doing things by hand and with traditional machines. H...
