I would be generally careful about walking around at night if there aren’t many people around (and I live downtown), but honestly the criminals are not that sophisticated. There’s no premeditated targeting of specific watches like you get in the big Europ...
I've seen the videos from LA, but I follow crime and watch related things pretty closely for Chicago, and don't remember anything like what you described. The closest I can think of is someone robbed a gray dealer store two years ago.
It's relatively easy to make that type of observation since most members here do lean tangibly to more traditional watches, so it stands out visually when someone like yourself does otherwise....
and went head to head with NYC, which would “win”🤔 The architecture and integration of buildings with waterways, etc. truly make this a uniquely charming city.
