In Chicago for a conference past few days. Was cloudy and rainy at first, then cleared up, but I enjoyed it all. Was busy with meetings/work, but did get to walk around a bit. Kept my wrist companionship simple and light. ...

Taking a popular brand watch might be dangerous.

Like most big cities, there are bad neighborhoods, but during the day in most places (and certainly anywhere you’d want to go) it is completely safe.

NYC is really kind of the same.

I would be generally careful about walking around at night if there aren’t many people around (and I live downtown), but honestly the criminals are not that sophisticated. There’s no premeditated targeting of specific watches like you get in the big Europ... 

And then shortly after someone shows up to take their AP or RM.

I've seen the videos from LA, but I follow crime and watch related things pretty closely for Chicago, and don't remember anything like what you described. The closest I can think of is someone robbed a gray dealer store two years ago.

when I think about it and look at pieces I’m most drawn to, they are idiosyncratic in one way or another.

It's relatively easy to make that type of observation since most members here do lean tangibly to more traditional watches, so it stands out visually when someone like yourself does otherwise....

The guilloche dial is superb!

and went head to head with NYC, which would “win”🤔 The architecture and integration of buildings with waterways, etc. truly make this a uniquely charming city.

If so, a friend of mine was there.

The lighting in that area really highlighted the guilloche pattern.
