Any experience with Asaoka?
Hi all,
Just wanted to see if any one you have had experience dealing with or purchasing a Japanese watch from Asaoka? He is one of the few AHCI members from Japan.
Specifically:
- what do you think of his basic time only model? I really like this Art Deco style
- anything else comparable in design and quality I should consider, ie two tone, Art Deco, and/or sector dial type?

As I understand fully in-house.
Self taught watchmaker. Runs on a big 16mm balance wheel. Priced like a PP Calatrava
Kick ass movement
(ok perhaps a bit less eloquently put, but I stand by it). I really really like this watch and surely wouldn’t say no to it.
Love his work, but difficult to contact
already sent many mails but without any reply think that it would go much smoother if you can speake his maternal language

Its an an outstanding piece which I saw in the flesh in London during the Watchmakers Masters Of Horology exhibition - I made inquiries which when eventually answered indicated up to 2
years for delivery. I would also suggested that you review some of the comments on the forum from KIH which have been very positive around the watches but so much not around the Watchmaker - With 'independents' you need to be buying into the watchmaker as...

KIH told me the same thing i think .
I would love to own a Tsunami but if you cant contact the watchmaker or he dosnt reply on your mails its hard to continue with the proces imo . I think i will pass this watch
Saw at the Masters of Horology in London

... but I never got a response to my inquiries, even when I wrote them in Japanese! Absolute no-go IMO.
the dial aesthetics are beautifully subtle...
