You can order the watch without the center lug.
Any strap maker can make the cut to the center to fit the three lugs. Nothing to it.
The real issue with the watch is the double screwed spring bar which is not recessed into the lug. It is tricky to remove or insert the screw and not let the screwdriver blade slip out and scratch the lug. A recessed head into the lugs holds the screwdriver blade in place.

One detail bothers me
The proprietary lug annoys me as it significantly reduces options for strap changes and I don't feel it adds much visually.
