my old new De Bethune : not doing more but better :)

 By: Fenndalton : October 9th, 2015-14:11
let's push the De Bethune's door We are a few on fora to like, even love, this De Bethune manufacture and after a try a few years ago at « belles montres », i was under the charm of this simple DB 25 time only collection line. Mark in Paris described so w...

Fantastic way to go

As I told you, I think you made a great move and this slate dial is a fantastic choice for the DB25 model. The hands have been changed too, compared to the silver dial's blued ones: perfect match. Thanks a lot for taking the time to share you experience a...

thanks Mark

With ths new dial, it is not the same watch could be silly, but the DB25 "seems" less thick. I am fully satisfied with the results.

Fantastic metamorphosis

The transformation of the watch from the original package to the slate dial and new hands has been truly spectacular - looks like a really inspired choice you made, too. Hope you will enjoy it for a long time!

Thanks

I surely will.

Not surprised by de Bethune response as they are a "real" manufacture....

their custom orders are getting more and more...with spectacular results..no fuss, nothing is impossible, undoable. The customers wish always come true,as it should be. Building everything in house can allow you to do that. Isn't this what every brand shoul...

Agreed, Mo. [nt]

I will tell you something.

Brands have explained me during years and years (even the largest one, mainly the largest ones) that personalization is very difficult due to the structure of the industry and that it is too complex to handle this type of request for third party providers...

C mon FX,everything is possible, especially if you have manufactures...The indies(some) do it all the time..

 By: moc : October 10th, 2015-01:33
De Bethune never had any problem in doing it ,from the simplest change to the bespoke piece(if money is not an issue). Kari also provides different dials or high personalisation..the answer you get from these brands?"No Problem,we can do it.." Others who ...

I agree and I also understand the bigger brand's position:

By: Mark in Paris : October 10th, 2015-07:59
The independents are the nearly last representative of the State of the Art in watchmaking. They do bespoke because they like to and are nearly as excited as the customer to discover how the final product will look like. They have the curiosity and energy...

you have some valid points here Mark,but..

 By: moc : October 11th, 2015-06:17
I am being a bit critical for the following reasons: 1)YES,an uncontrolled bespoke department would be very difficult to manage, imagine how many Lange fans or Patek(!!!) or any other brands would love a little personalisation if it was easily available......

Indeed, I would also appreciate they propose a kind of bespoke department

By: Mark in Paris : October 11th, 2015-15:15
This would allow many clients to have a closer relationship with their watch and, hence, the brand (it can lead to ugly results, hence, a bad impact on the brand's image but then the brand can oppose its veto too) Your "GOOD ENOUGH" argument is something ...

I agree Mark

 By: Fenndalton : October 13th, 2015-12:17
that there is a commercial responsability doing bespoke when making more than 20'000 watches a year. Vacheron answered his way developing the Cabinotier for such personalization. With Pro's and Con's. It is known that they could do whatever you want, but ...

thanks..

THe blue dial was also the dial that opened to me the De Bethune manufacture. It offers great colour variations and could be worn with almost anything. But ,as i said, with time, i got less excited. The new dial offers new feelings and new discoveries.

Glad to know that De Bethune answered you positively. ;-)

I won't enter the interesting debate started by Mo… It seems that some Mods are again very keen to have the last word. It is as if they know more and better. Well done, Fenndalton.

It is just a debate.

It seems you never can accept the contradiction and are convinced to be always right Sorry for having different thoughts and taste than yours.

Dear Mark

You seem to return the compliment Only with you, and FX, I would not have used "never" and "always", just "again". It is not about contradiction. Maybe just a question of style. The forceful way contradiction happens. Looking forward to your review on you...

I seem to recall

we have had very civilized and interesting exchanges of viewpoints here some other places in the past. Beside, I was one of the first one to welcome you as a moderator of PsPro… You may not remember and it probably does not matter. I just feel that at a t...

Thanks Ztirual for your kind words..

Independants such as KV or De Bethune seems to be open to some personalisation. The difficulty lies on the collector's who should exactly know what he/she is looking for. This should also be done in accordance with the DNA of the Brand. Otherwise it is no...
