Hublot

Hublot Platinum Mat Big Bang

If you have collected watches for a while, and if you do not have unlimited funds in your bank account, you probably have a few regrets over the years.  I certainly do, and one would be having sold Hublot's Platinum Mat Big Bang.

To this day, I do not think Hublot has offered a better looking Big Bang than this one.  What immediately attracted me to it was the stark combination of the materials and color palette.

The black dial markings, numerals and indices, and hands are striking over the silverized background.  Also note there is no luminous material here used by Hublot, which would not have been correct to use on this watch.  I think companies sometimes think a sports watch must have luminous material, and in this case, it really would kill the look.

The numerals and hour markings have great depth.  I always consider these sculpted markings part of the original Big Bang DNA.

The dial has a very cool grainy appearance...

which you now see matches well to a similar finish used on the platinum case.  It is almost like a bead blasted finish, and if I recall correctly, Hublot used a sort of clear coating over the metal.

Really a wonderful and unique look.  But also part of the reason (at least at the time) I decided to sell it.  Platinum typically offers a spectacular deep luster, and the decision to present it with a blasted finish diminishes this great attribute.

I own several firearms that have a bead blasted stainless steel finish, and they look remarkably similar to this watch in platinum.  I would be quite pleased to see Hublot issue this watch in such a material and finish, which would arrive at a much more affordable price point.  But of course, there is a certain exclusivity for those who own the platinum model, and for that reason, I respect Hublot for not offering the same watch in steel which could be so similar.

It has almost become rare to see such a sober looking sports watch.  The mostly 2-tone Platinum Mat Big Bang is a real looker.

And another regret... no wrist shots of this piece!  I'm sure I have some, but where they have been placed I do not know.  So for now, I just recall how wonderfully satisfying this watch was while I owned it.
