There should be a number etched into the case side, between the lugs at 6 o'clock. With that number you can find out approximately when the watch was made.
You might also try a specialty Heuer web-site. There are at least two which you should easily find through Google, etc.

Auto-Graph model was launched in 1948 - this is such a watch. Appears to be one on eBay for $680... Others will know a lot more on specifics i.e. how long it was produced for.
