Horological Meandering

This Smiths radio room watch is a cool novelty in my collection. It's based on a ship's radio room clock marked with three minute segments that designate periods of silence to listen for radio distress calls.

I'm no expert seaman, but according to what I've read, the green segments are for monitoring for distress signals on frequency 2182 kHz and the red segments for morse code distress calls. The outer red segments surrounding the dial are guides for a radio operator to accurately transmit the four seconds alarm signal. The salty dogs among us can correct me if I'm wrong. Smiths produced this limited edition of 100 in 2010.

I like to break it out at this time of year because the colors are very Christmas-y.
