GF set out to drastically reduce energy consumption and space usage of a movement, and thus engaged into the Mechanical Nano project. They chose the fourdoryante complication to prove their concept works, as this is easy to implement, promises significant gains (if the concpet works) and yield clear readouts.
Its just an intemediary step, but a fascinating one. My own molecular biology experiments were much less beautiful (and quite messy at times) to observe ;-)
