Stealth Pilot
Here's a collaboration watch that is more than just a different dial. The IWC Pilot's Watch for Hodinkee
What we have exclusive and specially made for this watch are
- "Sterile" Mark 11 dial
- Blacked-out frame hands in the correct Mark 11 style
- White sweep hand in the correct Mark 11 style
- No-date dial and true no-date movement (even though it is "only" Sellita-based)
- Case, caseback, crown, and strap buckle/tang all made from IWC's proprietary Ceratanium

Ceratanium is a new alloy composed of titanium and zirconium oxide (ceramic). The only other watches made with Ceratanium are the Aquatimer Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month Edition “50 Years Aquatimer” (an LE of 50 pieces from 2017) and the current Pilot's Watch Double Chronograph Top Gun.
During the sintering (baking) process the titanium and ceramic fuse together to form the new material. It is not a surface coating like PVD.

Titanium is light and strong, but scratches easily. Ceramic is very hard and scratch resistant, but is prone to shatter or crack if given a hard shock or dropped.

Ceratanium has the lightness and durability of titanium with the scratch resistance of ceramic. The best of both worlds as it were without the individual weaknesses of each material.
