Horological Meandering

Quality is on par

The quality of ML and Oris is generally on par, when comparing watches in the same price bracket. ML watches are certainly more elaborately designed and finished, but I would not call them higher quality. Oris is more of a no-nonsense, functional timepiece. If I was looking for a sports watch I would pick any Oris, if I wanted a dress/casual watch I'd go for the ML. Each of them excels in those respective categories; on the other hand I think the ML sports watch is a poor competitor for Oris and vice versa.

On a related topic, I suspect ML will gradually phase out its lower end watches in the medium to long term and move upmarket, something that the CEO hinted at in an interview earlier this year ; he said they are moving upmarket but did not state that the lower range would be discontinued.
