Horological Meandering

Not so bad...

Grew up in former Yugoslavia, so could travel freely to the West and did not truly suffer from a repressive regime, by the late 1970s / early 1980s it was all relatively liberal - at least in comparison to the 'real' Iron Curtain. So Rust was an event that did not really register so much, especially since I was quite small at the time.

Still, it was not growing up in Western Europe and the knowledge of watch brands or options was much more limited. Quite funny the selection that was considered 'known'. Rolex was definitely something people would recognize (at least those with some interest), Breitling was considered de rigeur by aviation enthusiasts, the other respected brands being Rado, Tissot and - for some reason - Doxa. Swatch was considered highly appealing to younger people, of course. Apart from that you would know Junghans, Omega and Cartier, Seiko and Citizen and that was pretty much it.
