It has that on the new L1 moonphase too. Making it hard to pull the crown with short nails.

I'm not familiar with the model but based on your photo it looks like there's a slight bevel around the back of the watch, and if so, the crown would perhaps overhang this bevel...
...making the crown susceptible to getting caught on something. Just a thought...
