Talking of straps, with my vintage watches I try to get one that I think the watch would have been supplied with originally. NATOs for military style and usually plain black or brown leather for non -military which is what is usually shown on old advertis... 

It could be a good idea to consider having very subtle conservation work done on the dial.

I choose my words carefully as I haven’t seen the watch in person. The difficulty is that a point comes when you need to stop further deterioration.
