And even for high end watches with a gorgeous movement.
Having easy access to beauty is not that special.
To look at it from time to time, when you service the watch is so much sexier in my perception. I don’t want to provoke any discussion and don’t take me wrong…. But the same with a beautiful women, so much more appealing when dressed, covered….

I think any movement even a cheap plastic one is much more interesting than looking at a steel wall.
I understand that for some tool watches like dive watches etc a solid caseback is a necessity for better water resistance etc but other than that I actually struggle to grasp why would anyone want to look to a solid steel caseback instead of any and I mea...

I prefer an exhibition caseback as long as
it has a nicely decorated movement or a technical achievement worth it to be seen. I’m thinking in my Glycine and my Tissot. In these cases I would have preferred a steel caseback with something nice carved on it. Cheers.

Metal casebacks are more comfortable on the wrist, they make the watch thinner and, unless the movement is truly exceptional, seeing it isn't worth it.
not all display backs are thicker than their solid counterparts
and if the movement is well finished, or includes visible mechanisms like crown wheel chronographs, it can be a delight.
I can't argue with that, some movements are worth seeing
But I'd rather see closed case backs on watches with industrial finish. It makes them more comfortable.
What is the point of mechanical if you cant see the mechanics!
I have some solid case back watches like my Rolex 5513, but I wish it was a sapphire caseback. Even if not well finished, I like being able to see how the watch works personally.

I have only one watch with a transparent case back….
….and it sits just below the famous El Primero movement, something one would ordinarily be interested in. I look at it never.
I also have a Zenith EP chronograph. It has a solid caseback with a nice engraving. Although in this case I would have preferred an exhibition caseback, this is a minor quibble to me.
In the end, nobody wears their watches upside down so if somebody wants to behold the caliber, I think that the best idea is to buy an skeleton/open dial.

For me that’s not an advantage because if something
goes wrong I take the watch immediately to the workshop. Cheers.
