I suspect these attempts to widen the Montblanc product range
Apr 14, 2008,22:27 PM
are aimed at consumers who see Montblanc as the "best penmaker" - so why not the "best" watchmaker as well? The Montblanc brand name is VERY strong in luxury pens, I've heard an estimate that Montblanc has 70-80% of the luxury pen market (over $100 or $200 per pen), which is a credible figure. Already Montblanc makes a handful of five and six figure priced pens each year, which sell pretty well, so why not watches too?
Montblanc is morphing into a brand, rather than a penmaker, which is a sure way to profit handsomely; just like Cartier has evolved from being jeweller to kings and king of jewellers to a de rigeur luxury brand at airport duty-free shopping. Montblanc is already the second largest brand in Richemont by revenue, after Cartier; with its global network and presence, it is poised to take off as a brand.

Even if I'm not yet totally convinced, I have to say at least that this watch has some interest, due to its caliber. Yers I'd prefer to see a simpler design of a first ( don't tell me I'm wrong..LOL) watch, maybe more prudent, but hte movement is interest...
No, it is an "in-house technical team development"

Montblanc watches are separate and distinct from Montblanc Villeret watches; the latter is made/developed by the Institut Minerva de recherché en Haute Horlogerie, which specialises in high horology complications. - SJX This message has been edited by SJX...
