Getting one of my all-time favorites on my wrist today: the Breitling Co-Pilot AVI "Digital" ...
from 1953. Reference 765, powered by a Venus 178 an with the stop-function minute-counter at 3-o'clock being displayed in numerals instead of a hand.
The production run on these very early "digital" versions was fairly small before Breitling replaced the numeral-disc with a hand and counter-scale. My specimen is in fairly good condition for a 72 years' old watch. And, it still has the original hands which is quite rare ...

I guess reading the time "optically" (i.e. with hands indicating the time) is processed by ....
.... the brain a fraction quicker than reading the time "by numbers". Just a guess..... Cheers, HSTE
