I saw a Rose Gold model today and it was nicer than I had expected. I realize it's referred to as a deck watch, but I am not exactly sure how to classify it. I don't view it as either a dress or sports watch. I know labels don't really matter, but what do you consider it?
I was particularly impressed with the dial. It seem to have a subtle metallic sheen that was a nice shade of off-white or ivory. It wasn't a bold white like it appears in some photos. The blue hands were also exceptional, being noticeably more vivid than other blue hands I have seen. The movement finishing also seemed well done for the price point. It certainly adds to the charm of the watch.
In terms of function, the winding action was very nice, feeling smooth & solid. It also didn't take much effort to register on the PR meter. I am not sure how this compares to other Unitas based movements, though. It was also interesting to see the pronounced ticking of the second hand. I assume this is due to the low-beat movement, yes?
While there were many things I really liked, I thought the case finishing was not as impressive as the other details. The matte finishing combined with the simple case design seemed more utilitarian, and didn't have the finesse or detailing of say an IWC Jones or Portuguesse (IMO). It was, however, very comfortable on my wrist.
Overall, I thought it was quite impressive & unique. I am still a bit unsure of going with such a niche product. Should I have concerns in terms of servicing and obtaining parts down the road? Do you feel the brand offers a good quality & value relative to other similarly priced watches? Would you have any other concerns before deciding on a Dornblueth?
