Fears Brunswick Salmon - Now with better pics!
Hello all,
I finally had a chance to take some better pics of my new Fears Brunswick Salmon watch. All photos are in natural sunlight.
Fears Watches is a British watchmaker that was founded 175 years ago and then closed its doors in 1966. It was restarted in 2016 by the founder's great-great-great-grandson, Nicholas Bowman-Scargill. I became fascinated with this watch after watching Adrian Barker of Bark & Jack interview him. The attention to detail that goes into every step of the watchmaking process and its understated elegance matches my personality precisely. This is a watch to truly love, and not simply to invest in.
The dial is a mixture of rose gold and copper that reflects different colors at varying angles. The Arabic numerals were designed by Lee Yuen-Rapatie (@onehourwatch), who derived inspiration from the company archives. Note the shadows their height create and how they too reflect different colors in different light. The hands are blued and are extensively hand finished. While the case style is reminiscent of Panerai, Fear Watches created the case design first. This watch uses a nicely refinished ETA 7001 movement. Winding this movement is a pleasure!
Written on the dial is simply "Fears" at 12 o'clock and "England" at 6 o'clock. This brevity reflects the watch's understated elegance and is a welcome relief from the tomes on my Daytona and GMT-M2C.
I lastly want to add that Mr. Bowman-Scargill has been a true gentleman in his numerous communications with me, via email and with hand-written notes. He makes feel like a member of a special watch family.
Thank you for viewing this post.
Cheers,
Ira
Light dial, dark numerals.

Dark dial, light numerals.

To cast a giant shadow, the numerals do.

Hands of blue, two by two.

Simple, yet elegant.

The pipette is the Fears trademark symbol. It is also used for the five-minute marker in the railroad track.

The curve of the sapphire dome is beautiful.

For size comparison. (Yes, my GMT is not babied.)
