Horological Meandering

Aren't you concerned about the security of your watch?

Sure you are, so are everybody. Some may choose to store the watches in the bank safe. Some even have the safe in house..... Some just insure them.

Now, this is one of these security measures I found at "The World Watch Fair" now being held in Tokyo.

"Hyper Security Winder"

Alarm rings or blares when certain level of "tilt" is sensed by the sensor. (yes, even the earthquake would trigger....). When the AC cord is unplugged, the battery will keep the alarm blaring for 45 minutes.

Inside the drawer is fire-proof.

Equipped with GPS, and with cooperation with the security company, this "safe winder" can be tracked down immediately.

"Lighter version" - equipped with GPS, but no fire proof drawer.....

Further, the bottom is welded to 1m x 1m thick steel plate which cannot get out of the standard house door.

I wish I had such big house with room to put this safe winder, but unfortunately, no.... Anyone?

This would be good for someone who has a very large and valueable collection. Reminds me of someone who told me he had two full size gun safes, and had them bolted together so it would be impossible to move, even when empty. No one ever tried to steal his...

This is one of the ugliest safes I have ever seen... I would hope someone would just steal the safe and leave the watches :-) Cheers Andrew

Imagine this kind of system in your house. Ok for burglars. But now, what will yuo do if someone comes with a gun, and puts it on the head of your wife or children? You give all the content of your safe without thinking about it... So, the only secure way...

Last year there was a robbery, similar to a movie, where the criminals stayed a full weekend inside a bank and got the contents of several safes there. This robbery happened on the main street of here. Nothing is 100% safe. Cheers, Nilo

which cannot get out of the standard house door, then how do they get the safe in the house then? Put the safe in the room and then weld it to the steel plate which fits through the door sideways? - AT

In Malaysia even bank safe is not safe! More and more recent news reports people digging hole into banks and raiding the safes. Oh and seems everyday one or two ATM machine is being emptied.

To me the bank safe is still the safest. As i dont have a safe at home. So at any time i have only one "good" watch at home. I rotate with the other 2 i have in the safe maybe every 2 months or when i feel like it.

It is valid to worry about the safety of your watches. But, to be extremely paranoid is certainly no fun at all. Then, it is better to keep the money in the bank. Regards Ling
