all you need is a
3D printer printing steel or gold. And a good 3D scanner. I believe the old industrial world still needs to get to grips with this industrial revolution that's heading their way. It's quite amazing what is possible already. Though only a few big companies have the means to build proper 3d printers. Boeing is already printing parts that are used in airplanes (Dreamliner).

carbon fiber
I am working on the mainspring now. I will use a much stiffer material, for it - 3D printed carbon fiber. I have used it for some pinions already with very good results
