A very good question indeed!
As I own only one
watch with a power reserve indicator, my favourite style is the one of the
Patek Philippe 5712. I like that it shows the remaining power in 12h steps. The
red dots are like a visual alert and put some spice on the dial.

The "Auf/Ab" of Lange is a very strong design as well.
For a more dressy watch I would prefer a hidden power reserve indicator on the back of the case.
