Horological Meandering

A little bit of everything

2008 was the year I got back into watches after a break that lasted several years. There are at least 3 more watches I want. I blue dialed one, a black watch, a Zenith Chronomaster Open.

For 2009 I foresee some smaller independents going bust. Didn't one company already go bankrupt? Profits will decline for many companies as the the economy worsens world-wide. I'm not sure prices will go down. That's rare and I don't think it's among the things business people who claim to sell luxury goods could understand. With things declining, that will benefit the grey market.

Design-wise, I would say we'll continue to see more diversity and variety. With some brands starting to release their in-house movements things will get interesting as we enter into the post-generic- Swatch-movement era. What used to be trends are just another item in a product portfolio. So there will continue to be large watches, black watches, diamonds-everywhere, bizarre haute designs, etc. I've come to embrace both large watches and black ones. As ridiculous as a large watch would look on my small wrist, it sure has impact. And black watches just look cool.
