SJX, in terms of history what do you think of...

A. Lange & Sohne? Would you consider them to be in the same boat as Blancpain, i.e. a brand revived in the recent past (i.e. 10-20 years ago) having been dormant or non-existent for many decades. Granted Lange does have a legitimate history tracing itself to the 19th century, but would you see it in the same light as the uninterrupted history of PP, AP, etc? I guess even Breguet can be considered a modern revival?

Dear friends, I like very much this perptual chronograph Especially because I find it nice-looking while compatible with a "sporty" life. But I remember there has been quite a lot of reliability problems with Blancpain in the past. Do you think it is OK n...

Almost.

No, for one reason - history

Not for because of the intrinsic quality of the watch, but because its claimed history is tenuous at best. Without the genuine and glorious history that other top level manufacturers (Patek, AP etc) can claim, Blancpain will never be in that league, even ...

A sidebar on the founding of Blancpain . . .

. . . my first recollection of the brand goes back to 1986: a jewelry store in Bahrain had taken on the line and the local newspaper carried a story on the brand and it's history. I distinctly recall the article mentioning the ability of Blancpain to serv...

That is actually very, very true

Hi Art, That is actually plausible, in fact it makes a lot of sense. In fact, Blancpain's claim actually proves the point I made in my original post about Blancpain's tale. For most of its history, Blancpain, or its predecessors, made few watches at inter...

. . . when Mr Biver revived the brand, and after re-reading my post it seems less charitable than I intended. I still wonder, though, if anyone ever sent in their grandfather's heirloom watch and the service department actually had to go back to old bluep...
