I believe the date display should complement the watches, and it should not stick out like a sore thumb. I like how certain brand managed to integrate it very well into the design, but it is a pain in the a*** to see one that is placed oddly (like you've mentioned, between the 4-5 o'clock location), or when one is placed at a seemingly out of position location.
I have caught Nicolascitis!

I have the same thoughts as you...
On the nautilus.... :( The AP RO 39mm 15202 did this well though :) So do some of the GOs (eg the 70s with blue dial and blue date aperture) Hope more brands will do the same. Cheers Robin

I see a lot of Dates as not really mandatory, but I have to say that I love them when they are part of the design or the concept / idea behind the Watch. Best! Nicolas

I have a mild, but apparently incurable, case.
Most of my watches do not have date windows. I take revenge on the ones that do by never setting the date.
