Highly Agree on this point!

I believe the date display should complement the watches, and it should not stick out like a sore thumb. I like how certain brand managed to integrate it very well into the design, but it is a pain in the a*** to see one that is placed oddly (like you've mentioned, between the 4-5 o'clock location), or when one is placed at a seemingly out of position location.

I have caught Nicolascitis!

Nicolascitis: A very rare but highly contagious condition whereby one's enjoyment of a watch is utterly ruined by the placement of an ill-advised date window! Anyone else suffer from this condition? Sincerely, Kamy

Enjoy the asymmetry. And never have to check your iPhone to know the date ... ...
Andrew, asymmetry is not the problem...

... as it is so elegantly displayed by your F.P. Journe! In fact, there are times when the date window adds to the aesthetics or the overall design philosophy of a watch... ALS certainly comes to mind. The problem is when the date function appears to have...
Personally afflicted for years.

I understand the desire to have a date as the watch companies believe it boosts sales. On some pieces, however, it seems borderline criminal (excuse my hyperbole) as it kills the harmony of an otherwise wonderful dial. I have not bought several watches so...
Agreed

The FF would definitely be better IMO without the date, but it's ironic you mention that watch in particular as I feel that the FF is a lesser offender among the watches with a 4/5 o'clock date. The FF date is out on the perimeter of the dial; and it uses...
Maybe not in its acute phase ;)

What I can tell is that I take no longer date windows for granted because of Nicolas Indeed I look more rigorously in that feature and indeed I must say than in around 75% of cases there are dial killers but in another 25% of cases they look very a propos...
LOL! This is funny!

Nicolas are you reading this?! hahaha Good one Peripeteia! Yes I do suffer from this too. Esp small date window that is hard to read and often has a different colored aperture as the dial color (eg white on blue dial) cheers robin
I have the same thoughts as you...

On the nautilus.... :( The AP RO 39mm 15202 did this well though :) So do some of the GOs (eg the 70s with blue dial and blue date aperture) Hope more brands will do the same. Cheers Robin
You and Robin are both too picky...

Picky picky picky. But yes. They do make an alternative. Try the 5712/1A! I've found your cure. Hmm, what big pharmaceutical company am I going to go work for now?

Congratulations again Peripeteia upon the new chapter in your life!
Aaah Kamy, I cannot disagree, here.

I see a lot of Dates as not really mandatory, but I have to say that I love them when they are part of the design or the concept / idea behind the Watch. Best! Nicolas

The following pattern is typical : Firstly: .. What started as endemic in the CWD ( Center of Watch disease), Paris - appears to have developed into a pandemic pattern.. LOL ! ~br> Secondly, victims maintain a high level of happiness hormones for at least...
Highly aware of it these days...

but not too much against it. i think nico isn't exactly against dates. it's more the incoherent or after-thought execution that probably irks him. it is after all on his arguably favorite watch of all time... 6542 :)
I have suffered...
