Or, to cannibalise Emma Lazarus’ poem on the Statue of Liberty for the benefit of our Stateside friends:
“Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled watches yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming watchbox”.
OK, so here’s the deal. The Friday wrist-shot thread has blown over and has been consigned to the RM forum. If we’re not very careful, or a little creative, HoMe will be short on weekend reading. Because you wouldn’t want that to happen (would you?), you’re going to reach into the watchbox, dust off the point and shoot and post some photos of the watch or watches that wouldn’t ordinarily see the light of day.
Maybe you’ve forgotten they’re in there; maybe they are no longer fashionable; maybe you’re embarrassed about the watch you thought was the high-point of horology before you discovered PPro. Whatever: toughen up, gird your loins and put them up here for all to see. Contribute! Do so with gay abandon and reckless disregard for your usual reticence! Remember, it’s all part of ‘the journey’, and who knows what satisfaction you will bring to another reader, as one woman’s meat is, after all, another woman’s poison.
Enough tortured clichés for you? OK, here’s something to start you off.
Stowa. Model not known. Bought ‘pre-loved’ over the net; the postage cost more than the watch ;-)
Zenith. Great watch – sensational watch – and bought as an example of the iconic ‘El Primero’ movement, but in real life the dial is very difficult to read.
Oris. Bought as a ‘beater’ and a ‘water-watch’, but since overtaken by a Sub and a few others.
Tag. There must have been a reason for someone who generally dislikes rectangular cases to have spent money on this one, but if there was it is now lost in the mists of time…
C'mon, you know you want to! Looking forward to seeing what has been overlooked and underloved in your watchbox.
Cheers,
pplater.
