Where to put them

I have two conflicting thoughts on the subject.

First, power reserve indications on the front of the watch, make little sense.  Really you only need to know the state of wind when you put the watch on and when you take it off.  Placing the power reserve indication on the back of the watch works perfectly checking this way.  Plus, placing the indication on the back, removes clutter from the dial.

Second, the reason to place the indication on the front is that it can make the dial look cool.  I think Breguet does this best of all.

So two totally conflicting points of view.  The only way to rationalize them is to say that  if it looks cool and makes the dial look cool, place it on the front.  If it is not cool and makes the dial look cluttered, place it on the back.
