Power reserve indicators. What is your opinion about them?

Aug 30, 2016,11:28 AM

Hi all

Well, I have to confess that I really love power reserve indicators. For me, they are very useful and they can be so different.

Do you like this complication (for automatic or manual movements)? Which style do you prefer (classic, original...)? What is your preferred one?

Thank you for your opinion and your pictures.

Now, some pictures (non exhaustive list of course).

Oris 110 years LE with a 10 days non-linear power reserve indicator. It gives you a better indication of how much power is left as the moment to wind approaches. Really interesting IMHO.

One of my Grail... the famous Jaeger-LeCoultre Futurematic "Porthole" (only 500 ex in steel) and its round power reserve indicator at 9

Another linear power reserve indicator but a vertical one this time. It comes from the Audemars Piguet Concept Watch 1 (CW1).

A "simple" one but really nice and well executed. Moritz Grossmann Benu Power Reserve.

Very well thought! The power reserve indicator of the Oris Col Moschin LE which uses the colours of the Italian flag

And, to conclude, IMHO the most original ones.

Bien cordialement Alkiro

The only way to settle this is by a duel of power reserves

Gentlemen, select your watches Full wind at 20 paces and let them run. Honour will be satisfied only once the winner\'s watch runs longer than the impudent challenger

Very sorry.

Where to put them

I have two conflicting thoughts on the subject. First, power reserve indications on the front of the watch, make little sense. Really you only need to know the state of wind when you put the watch on and when you take it off. Placing the power reserve ind...

Thank you Jeff for your input

As you mentioned, Breguet did that very well. It is not the main reason why I bought it but I really love my La Tradition with its front and... back power reserve ;-) I will post some pictures of it soon... with the front and back power reserve indicator ...
