Just unveiled: the Alfred Helwig Tourbillon 1920 - Limited Edition

2020 is the 100th anniversary of one of the most sophisticated inventions of haute horlogerie: the development of the Flying Tourbillon by Glashütte master watchmaker Alfred Helwig. In his honour Glashütte Original presents the Alfred Helwig Tourbillon 1920 – Limited Edition featuring a classic, elegant face. Inspired by historic models built by Helwig and his students at the German Watchmaking School Glashütte, this new interpretation of the “whirlwind” is positioned, like its predecessors, with understated elegance on the reverse of the movement.

Putting the Tourbillon on the back is the best thing to do. Not because G.O.‘s Tourbillons were not worth displaying but because it is the opposite of showing off. The pinnacle of discreetness would have been to even not write it onto the dial. But in rea...

I was hoping for a new pilot watch from GO, but was pretty sure it wasn't that based on the teasers. This watch is gorgeous, and it's simple, tasteful design is why I love GO.

Did they borrow the hands from the Code 11.59?

Otherwise it's very nice indeed.

I had the same thought on first glance...

...they seem oddly out of place. Leaf hands?

I think they are very out of place. Especially for a high-end Glashütte Original

40mm x 11.6mm...

 By: mdg : September 24th, 2020-09:22
...slim enough. Would have preferred 38mm but that's being picky. Love keeping the fireworks on the back with a clean dial.

Good for me. [nt]
