Believe me, I know what you are talking about.

Being obsessed by the Senator Chronometer is sweet and painful at the same. At least as long as you don't own one. As soon as you decided and managed to get your hands onto one the pain goes away at once and it is only sweet
I totally agree with you that the SC is one of the best watch designs available these days. Frontside, backside, inner values, execution. It is breathtaking from every angle you look at it an so satisfying to wear one. (A pleasure that I do not allow myself too often.)
Coming back down to earth a little:
My perception of the new cal 36 has not changed.
I still see it as a development of the utmost importance for the years to come for the brand.
The feeling had grown on me in recent years that G.O. was doing very well in terms of mechanical construction and innovative mechanisms ( e.g. Senator Diary, Cosmopoilte) What was I was in missing a little were progresses in base base technology. So I was happy to see the first free sprung escapements in cal 37 and 89 (is 89 the correct movement number for the Cosmopolite?)
Cal 100 always seemed a little uninspired to me.
So the best thing I could hope for was a base caliber that would go a step further into the direction of contemporary watch technology.
From this you may imagine how curious I was when first rumors about a new base caliber reached me and how pleased and satisfied I was when I read about the details. The manufacture had delivered far over my hopes in term of power reserve and beauty. Of course it still has to stand the test of time but from what I have seen this is one of the best and most desirable base calibers of the market. And given that it is not subject to mass production but manufactured in Glashütte the well known way I would prefer it over its contenders.
I think the Manufacture has laid a rock solid foundation for its intermediate future here. And the engineers in Glashütte have done a good job when the convinced their CEO to grant them a third year for the development of cal. 36. And he did a good job when he listened to them.
The result is truly convincing and serious.
It is pleasing how G.O. Is forging their own destiny. Something they have learned the hard way during their sometimes quite turbulent past.
Very pleased,
Martin

BaselWorld 2016: Live pictures from the G.O. booth
By: stromer : March 20th, 2016-14:26
It's six o'clock on a Friday, the regular crowd shuffles in....... This gentleman, who occupied himself with restoring antique and vintage watches and clocks at the German Watch Museum in Glashütte had brought some interesting stuff with him. From a rare ...
I think that this is due to my pictures.

The markers and and the minuterie are engraved and the galvanized. The blue lacquer on the dial has a depth like I have seldom (or never) seen before. That may be due to the relatively coarse grain of the lacquer and to the small embedded sparkling dots. ...

Found a picture in the press file that highlights the engraving on the dial. On the white CHronometer dials only the Roman numerals, the minute chapter ring and (on earlier models with the thin Glashütte logo) the logo are engraved. The small writings and...

Hi massi, I am afraid for you that this will not change to soon.
By: stromer : March 22nd, 2016-01:03
During the last years the Senator collection has moved one model after the other to the classic roman/poirée style, with the Diary, the Chronograph XL and the Hand Date being the only ones not moved yet (Interesting question what will become of these. Wil...
It was my pleasure to meet you.

Thanks for your kind reply Martin,

You said well, don't forget the Seventies Collection! Another nice variation... You named a model that I particularly like, the Senator Diary: I'm also curious to know which stylistic evolution will undergo this model... It's dial is not so easy to manage...
Excellence to Excellencer
By: aardvarkbark : March 21st, 2016-17:30
The Excellence would only be Excellecer if it had a big date. Will we have to wait until Basel 2017 for this?
Rumour has it that the wait will not be that long.
By: stromer : March 22nd, 2016-01:10
Actually, according to Magnus' delightful report about the Senator Excellence line , it is a little more than rumour. One might assume that the Panorama Date would be amongst the first complications to appear on cal. 36. Best, Martin
Now that an interval has passed, Martin, I wonder if . . .

. . . your immediate perceptions have changed. The sudden appearance of the newly developed standard caliber has positively altered my perception of the Manufacturer, which was already favorable to begin with. My sense is that, within a relatively short t...
