A close look at the time-only 1845 Senator Karrée
For my first post on the Glashütte Original forum, I wanted to find a model I really liked.
GO is a brand I'm still not very familiar with and about which I have a lot to learn, but this 1845 Senator Karrée really caught my eye.
There are other models with complications, but it's this manual-winding time-only version, that appeals to me the most (ref. number is 1-42-05-01-01-04, if I didn't get it wrong).
Here is a first example, whose photos I find very beautiful.
The two-tone dial with Arabic numerals is wonderful.
The steel case size is 30 x 42.5 x 10.8 mm
The watch is powered by the manual-winding shaped movement caliber 42 (or maybe 42-05).

Under certain lighting conditions, the dial seems almost single-tone.

“GUB 42” can be read below the balance wheel:
- “GUB” is a homage reference to “Glashütter Uhrenbetriebe”, the precursor entity to Glasshütte Original
- 42 is referencing the caliber used

Finally, I'd just like to show another version of this model with a dial featuring Roman numerals instead of Arabic numerals.
While I also find this Roman version beautiful, I think I still prefer the Arabic one shown above.

I didn't know this watch very well, it has a beatiful shape and movement. I just wish the minute track had been at the edge of the dial and uninterrupted by the small seconds dial...

My only complaint is the dial seems a little bland. It's too bad they didn't at least raise the numbers with ink or even raised numbers to add a bit more dimension to it.
But it's a nice design. I often find printed dials can be a but plain.

The early GO 1845 Karée releases with hand-wound shaped movements are so sadly overlooked. I have a particular soft spot for the Perpetual Calendar. I do feel GO blew it when it switched over to round automatic calibers in the Senator Karée cases, but for...

These models have a slightly more rounded or rather tonneau shape. Were they a second gen of the Senator Karrée, the first gen being more strictly rectangular? Best, Emmanuel
the first gen used more manual wind watches
