It's six o'clock on a Friday, the regular crowd shuffles in....... This gentleman, who occupied himself with restoring antique and vintage watches and clocks at the German Watch Museum in Glashütte had brought some interesting stuff with him. From a rare ...

Thanks for these live pics, which allowed me to discover the Senator Excellence

Which is pretty well named. Very nice, elegant, understated. Bravo to G.O. I am less sure about the blue dialed Chronometer. There is something which disturbs me on the dial. A certain flatness. The hour markers, maybe? Best, Nicolas

I think that this is due to my pictures.

The markers and and the minuterie are engraved and the galvanized. The blue lacquer on the dial has a depth like I have seldom (or never) seen before. That may be due to the relatively coarse grain of the lacquer and to the small embedded sparkling dots. ...

You might be spoiled by the silver friction-grained dials GO presented recently...

due to the intensive hand-applied procedure of brushing the river on the dial the indices need to be lasered in deeper, thus your observation indeed is warranted. However, if you have the chance to inspect the watches in person you'll be surprised to see ...

This picture may answer your question

Found a picture in the press file that highlights the engraving on the dial. On the white CHronometer dials only the Roman numerals, the minute chapter ring and (on earlier models with the thin Glashütte logo) the logo are engraved. The small writings and...

Looking forward to hear what you think after seeing thing in the metal. Best, Martin

Really nice to look at this new 36 caliber, very very interesting: the only complain is...

about the dials: for sure masterpieces as realization, but the design of hands and marks are far from my taste. Every year I hope to review a return to a dials design less "baroque", pass me the term... but at least the Pano collection is free from this d...

Hi massi, I am afraid for you that this will not change to soon.

 By: stromer : March 22nd, 2016-01:03
During the last years the Senator collection has moved one model after the other to the classic roman/poirée style, with the Diary, the Chronograph XL and the Hand Date being the only ones not moved yet (Interesting question what will become of these. Wil...

Martin, thanks for these insights which really help to understand GO's choice.

In the past I did not follow the brand as closely as you did (and do), thus these developments escaped my attention. BTW, thanks for your excellent presentation, the wonderful images, and above all: the time I could spend with you! Magnus

It was my pleasure to meet you.

I just wonder why we only meet in Basel? The South-East corner of Germany and Austria are not that far apart My warmest regards, Martin

Thanks for your kind reply Martin,

You said well, don't forget the Seventies Collection! Another nice variation... You named a model that I particularly like, the Senator Diary: I'm also curious to know which stylistic evolution will undergo this model... It's dial is not so easy to manage...

Massimiliano, I am with you here. I would like to see a redesign if the hours hand, particularly, but the longer the more...

I feel that the overall very refined, modernistic appearance of the Excellence could have been even more tempting if GO dared to seize the opportunity to rethink the hands as well. Having said that, my impression is that the RG version is much more consis...

Rumour has it that the wait will not be that long.

Actually, according to Magnus' delightful report about the Senator Excellence line , it is a little more than rumour. One might assume that the Panorama Date would be amongst the first complications to appear on cal. 36. Best, Martin

Now that an interval has passed, Martin, I wonder if . . .

. . . your immediate perceptions have changed. The sudden appearance of the newly developed standard caliber has positively altered my perception of the Manufacturer, which was already favorable to begin with. My sense is that, within a relatively short t...

Believe me, I know what you are talking about.

Being obsessed by the Senator Chronometer is sweet and painful at the same. At least as long as you don\'t own one. As soon as you decided and managed to get your hands onto one the pain goes away at once and it is only sweet I totally agree with you that...
