But I found it on the back--very faint from prior polishing--not between the lugs at 6. The front of the case is crisp and original so at least the polishing was kept to the back.
The hands and markers are even better than I expected, with clean and bright polished centers. 
The movement has some nice features. The first detent is for setting time (no hacking, which bothers me not at all), and the outside detent quicksets the date forwards and backwards.
Now, to shop for some blue reptilian skin.

Yes, GP changed from having the refrence number between the lugs to the case back sometimes in the 1970s. From the ref number I guess your Watch is from the mid/late 1970s. Will check if I can find out anything about your watch. But fear that anything fro...
