GP 1966 – On the wrist experience – Starts now!

Oct 12, 2014,04:28 AM

Friends,

As you know I have been trying to figure out which modern Girard-Perregaux I should get as my next watch. Should it be a sports or a dress watch? A simple time only watch or with one or several functions? Which metal? Dial color...?

Ah, the options are so many!

smile

After long deliberation, I have narrowed it down to that what I really need right now is a dress watch.

So, the next question is which model, Vintage 1945 or GP 1966? A rectangular or a round watch? Modern Art Deco or Classic…?

Still many decisions I have to make…

To help me in my process, Girard-Perregaux has been so kind and will let me test run one of their watches!

smile

So, the 12th of October 2014, “GP 1966 – On the wrist experience” – Starts now!

smile

Strap: Black alligator, White gold tang buckle.

The On the wrist experience test

The test will be done as following, from 12:00 today, 12th of October I will wear this watch each day for the next three weeks!

Test such as accuracy, deviations depending on position when off the wrist, visibility, comfort on the wrist, matching with cloths…

You name it and if not too extreme, I will try it!

smile

Please propose a test, if there is something you have been wondering about the GP 1966!

After the three weeks has gone, 12:00, 2nd of November, I will write a “In depth review” of this watch and give you my thoughts about the pro and cons.

After each week I will do a “Summation of the week” post, share some initial thoughts and hopefully some nice shots that I took during the week.

So, what do you say? Sounds like a fun and interesting test?

smile

This test will not only be a test for the watch, this will also be a test for me and my wrist!

Why? Normally I never wear the same watch more than one day in a row. Only time I do that is on vacation laying on a sunny beach somewhere…

Even if on vacation, your focus is not on watches…

After one week my wrist normally screams for another watch! Now I will have to even longer, three weeks with the same watch on my wrist!

Yes, this will be a great challenge!

smile

Please if anything you have been wondering about this watch let me know and I will try to answer all your questions!

Best

Blomman

if it could be tested for next three weeks down south ;) just to have it tested in different climate and conditions :) Great idea my friend as for your next watch I would go blue 1945 cos blue is color of love ;) Yours D

South.... You mean Göteborg...?! ;)

Blue don't narrow it down... There is a blue option in the GP1966 line as well! As for 1945 vs 1966 - yes, I am torn here.... But this test will help me (I hope)! :) Indeed, blue IS the color of love! ;) Best, my friend Blomman

I hoped

But I suspect it will be longer before GP lend me another watch after this one.... Best, dear friend Blomman

Excellent choice !

 By: crown comfort : October 12th, 2014-10:14
that's THE dress watch because of the classic look. I think the Vintage 45 benefits from some complications, like moonphase or chronograph. The white gold is very classic and understated. I have a feeling you will keep this one ;)

Well, my problem is that ....

By: blomman Mr Blue : October 12th, 2014-12:05
I haven't ruled out complications... 1945 with Big date and Moon Phase.... Or 1966 with enamel dial and sub second.... Chronograph.... Oh, there are so many great option! At least, I hope this wrist test will help me decide if 1945 or 1966! :) Best, my fr...

Well, I have no questions about this watch.

This is a nice offer from GP. I just regret the date, but for many, if I trust the marketing statistics, a date is mandatroy, as well as an automatic movement. Anyway, the case is great, the dial is finished with care. A good contender for those who are l...

Enamel dial 1966

 By: crown comfort : October 12th, 2014-13:44
is this actually still in the current collection or only NOS available? My opnion: the plain 1966 is a lot more classic and understated than the Enamel Dial

Not sure....

By: blomman Mr Blue : October 13th, 2014-04:07
But I do know that it is still possible to find at some AD's... Best Blomman

There are so many versions ....

So it is hard to keep track of all of them! Best, my friend Blomman

Nice testing...

My choice would be the GP 1966, small seconds and date... on black leather strap... Casey

...And date?! :)

By: blomman Mr Blue : October 13th, 2014-00:45
Watch out, Casey.... Vlad will come for you! ;) Best Blomman

granted, date might be questionable...

 By: cshimokita : October 13th, 2014-05:30
but practicality calls - a small concession should be allowed... small seconds at 9, a personal choice because I like that configuration... Casey

Honestly, I think date is one of the most practical complications!

By: blomman Mr Blue : October 13th, 2014-06:13
As for sub-second at nine.... Stay tuned, I might have some thing for your! :) Best Blomman

Question on strap choice....

 By: WHL : October 13th, 2014-10:29
I have usually seen the 1966 models delivered on alligator straps with rolled edges. Did you choose one with standard stitching or is that how GP is offering them now? Which would you prefer? I personally like the elegance of the rolled edge, but recogniz...

I didn't think of that detail when I choose...

By: blomman Mr Blue : October 13th, 2014-10:56
I was too exited to choose which watch...! ;) This is the strap that was on the watch. Personally, I prefer without stitched edges on this kind of dress watch. Think it makes the watch look even more elegant! But not sure of GP's strategy here - if you lo...

Like that elegant time-piece !.. Your wrist will get addicted to this one.. oK, you said..

 By: hs111 : October 14th, 2014-08:17
.. any Q be allowed : I wonder, if the tiny & very thin lume on the hands will provide enough to be read in darkness ? It is a " given" shortcoming, that luminosity on almost all kinds of dress- watches, is not enough ( eg: to read the time, when in theat...

No lume

 By: crown comfort : October 14th, 2014-09:58
Hi HS, as far as I know, there is no lume at all. On my 38mm pink gold at least is none. CC

Yes, correct!

By: blomman Mr Blue : October 14th, 2014-13:41
Thank you for the help, CC! :) Best Blomman
