Hi Tim, welcome! Now that´s a cool story! To get the watch back after such a long time is indeed outstanding! On the watch, the serial number noted might be the case number. So it´s a bit difficult to check, based on that only. What might be help are move... 

I think mine is from the same time period...and has a Valjoux 72....
