A shot of the Girard-Perregaux Dual Time in Steel, Ref 49544

Feb 21, 2017,00:03 AM

a shot I took last September at the manufacture of the GP Dual Time in Steel, Ref. 49544.

40mm case in the 1966 steel case with dual time zone display and up/down pushers to set the second timezone.

I know from previous posts that many of you quite like this version in Steel. I personally never got warm with the new Dual Time 1966, I would much rather go with the World Timer.

I don't think the layout is due to the small(ish) movement, but rather a design choice. The 24 hour ring is not rotating, only the red arrow shows the second timezone, so they could have easily made the ring bigger. I think 40mm is a good case size, but I...

interesting & pleasing offer, nevertheless.. I quite like this concept of just making setting the other time simple by the pushers +/-

in terms of size, as mentioned above, 39mm would have been ok, but I can live quite well with the given size. Does the 24hrs ( for the "other " time) also work for both time indications ? - I would guess so.. Anyway, thx for sharing, Best, hs

Thanks HS for your input

I think size-wise the case is good, 40 or 39 both works. The pushers are indeed a great idea and design for a dual time zone setting. The 24hrs ring is fixed.

Thx for your infos.. Without reiteration: Does the 24hrs ( for the "other" time) work for both time indications ?- See above, pls !..

BTW: somehow the dial configuration reminds me on a Sector dial, with long indices.- I sort of like that; might be controversial. Best & Thx for sharing again ! hs

Not sure I understand your question

 By: crown comfort : February 21st, 2017-02:12
the 24hr is just printed on the dial, not moving at all. So you read the time from the normal hour hands and use the red hand like a GMT hand you have on your Rolex GMT. So I guess the answer the 24hr ring is only for the 2nd timezone.

Stupid Me !.. ;)) Of course you are right !.. Yet, without being picky: in fact it would work for both..

 By: hs111 : February 21st, 2017-02:22
.. as the home time also is read like on any watch, so the ring time works actually for both - also like on the Rolex GMT.. But thx anyway, guess I might need to reflect a bit on one of my Rolexes !

No worries, it can be confusing by just the photo

what I meant about "not working" for the Home Zone, is that here it is not a true 24hr display. You can look at the 24hr ring but there is no indication if it is AM or PM, only for the second timezone it is real 24hr display.

Yes, the WW TC is the star. But the Dual Time diversifies the offer.

Now the obvious issue is a too small movement. GP tried to arrange that with the dial layout, but you cannot do the impossible. A less centered 24 hours ring... And the watch would be my taste, very much. Best, Nicolas

I agree, the WW.TC is close to perfection

what I do like in the Dual Time zone is the pusher setting and the date. As mentioned above, as the 24hr ring is fixed, they could have easily made it bigger with no dependency on the movement size.

Very nice piece.

I like the way the second time zone is laid out.

Thanks, my friend.

possibly because you are at the Maldives and need to know the time in Moscow?

Actually, I could care less what time it is anywhere right now.

Except dinner. I think it might be time for dinner.

I like this one! Much better then the previous Dual Time...

Thank you for the shot! But I think it is a bit unfair to compare it to the new - that one plays in another category! Best Blomman

Not comparable with the WW.TC, true

but when you need to choose between them, then I would opt for the

Traveller or caller GMT?

Are the pushers used to set the red, 24hr hand, or the silver hour hand? Thank you, and my apologies for bringing this thread back from 2017. 😁
