The contemporary 3 bridges Tourbillon: the Tourbillon Bi-axial

 By: foversta : October 7th, 2012-11:34
The recent presentation by Girard - Perregaux's Tourbillon bi-axial titanium DLC gave me the will to write about the White Gold version which was unveiled in 2010. I regret not having done it earlier because it is one of the most fascinating watches in re...

Horologicaly highly complicated, aesthetically sober, this watch is a great opus.

Certainly one of my favourite spherical tourbillons. Magic, captivating, what else to say??? Best, Nicolas

It seems contradictory to describe this tourbillon as both aesthetically sober and magical

 By: CaliforniaJed : October 8th, 2012-08:44
but Nicolas is right! I have to agree. This is a compelling watch in many ways. Best, CaliforniaJed

The overall simplicity enhances the beauty of the Tourbillon...

That's the trick Jed! ;) Thanks for your comments! Fx

In an era of EGO watches...

 By: moc : October 8th, 2012-09:38
one must have an horological solid pairs of .....to get this watch. What can we say:its pure class, its art deco sober lines are just the epitomy of understatement, pure pure coolness. I say it again:I don t like tourbillons much especially when they are in...

This is a pure art....

 By: KIH : October 8th, 2012-10:20
.... practicality aside, this is an art, just like H1 in my mind. Technical advancement show-off, if I may. Drooling product, nonetheless. Thank you for bringing this up, Fx! Ken

Thanks Ken!

The H1? That's a beautiful hommage for this GP! Fx

Earlier today I said my favorite watch size was 38-42 mm

 By: cazalea : October 8th, 2012-16:54
and now I have to change my specification to 45 mm by 18.5 mm. This watch is incredible. I cannot imagine how to get one of these, but I am watching "The Great Train Robbery" tonight to get ideas ... Cazalea

I am more into 33/36mm...

but I think EXACTLY the same :) ... cheers Francois

Thanks Mike!

And here the size and thickness have a good reason to be big: to create enough room for the Tourbillon! ;) Fx

What an amazing piece

 By: cisco : October 9th, 2012-02:10
Typical design and nicely interpreted complication by GP which is maybe the most amazing with Greubel and Forsey for tourbillons. What a moment it must be on the wrist ! Thanks for sharing Francois

Yes François!

 By: foversta : October 9th, 2012-15:12
Thanks for your words! Despite its thickness, it was a great pleasure for me to wear it. As i said, a watch full of paradoxes which explain its charm. Fx

Not impressed

I believe elegance is to be found in simplicity (that word rings a bell) but this watch is for those who delight in (superfluous) complexity. The tourbillon was invented to compensate for the static balance errors in temperature compensated split balances...

You are of course right, but if we go this way...

 By: amanico : October 9th, 2012-13:19
A quartz watch is the only thing we would need... And I am not even sure we need a quartz watch, since our cell phone gives us the time, for free. ... Need... That is the question.... Is Poetry necessary? Is Art necessary? Some think it is futile, others ...

I totally agree. [nt]

Dear Gyso...

 By: foversta : October 9th, 2012-15:23
The point is the raison d'être of any mechanical watch today... Moreover, the main goal of this Tourbillon is to add a touch of magic to this watch. Believe me and forget the pure practical point of view, listen to your heart and enter the poetry of this ...

Poetry is a good analogy.

 By: dxboon : October 9th, 2012-16:30
There are likely more succinct, and clearer ways to express one's thoughts than to put them into poetic verse, but there is an inherent beauty to poetic forms. The same goes for mechanical watches. If accurate and legible timekeeping are the ultimate goal...

Of course everyone has differing aesthetic values but IMO watchmaking has no more to do with art or poetry than violin making or automobile manufacture. I am confident that Philippe Dufour or Roger Smith would describe themselves as artisans rather than a...

Interesting piece

 By: patrick_y : October 10th, 2012-16:14
Very interesting, a bi-axial tourbillon. The tourbillon concept is quite interesting with 225 second full revolution. The style of the watch is quite interesting, it has a mix of Art Deco and Empire styles and overall it looks like a bank vault.

in the other video, the DLC version

 By: lien : November 10th, 2012-16:26
looks much cooler than on paper, and i could almost see them making another version with sapphire bridges next to the shinny laureato! generally i dislike DLC or coating of any sort as i hate to see discoloration after daily wear/scratches, i luv all 3 bi...
