Girard Perregaux

ww.tc

I am looking to buy a world time zone watch which will be my first "high end" purchase, having graduated through the ranks of Oris, Longines and Omega.

After reading jenniferjanef's excellent review of the ww.tc and receiving her very helpful advice on some of my questions, I was lucky enough to try on a ww.tc at Geneva airport last week. Well, for those who haven't seen one in the flesh, I can confirm it is an absolutely beautiful time piece and also extremely comfortable. I tried on the 43mm chronograph version in stainless steel on leather strap and it fitted my 6 and 3/4 inch wrist perfectly as well as being relatively light. I had thought that I would need the 41mm case but the shape of the lugs on the  ww tc makes the 43mm case diameter a non-issue.

I also tried the JLC Master World Geographic, which I also thought looked great from pictures, but the fit (despite being smaller than the GP) and legibility (silver hands on silver dial) weren't right for me. So, I had made my mind up on the GP and was trying to determine the sales price when the sales assistant told me I had made the wrong choice! I assumed this was some game because perhaps she got more commission from JLC so I asked her why. This is what she said:

1. The ww.tc city dial does not take account of Summer Time for those locations who put the hour back so for 6 months of the year it cannot accurately tell overseas time.

2. Most surprisingly, once she knew accuracy was very important to me, she said that GP are notoriously inaccurate and would never be as accurate as a JLC. I found it hard to take this comment seriously especially as jenniferjanef has the watch and told me it gained around 1 second per day.

She also made other comments like the ww.tc is not a true in-house movement (I thought it was?) and would not hold it's value as well as JLC (I couldn't care less as if I buy it, I will not sell it).

I love the ww tc but just wanted to verify with those of you who are more familiar with GP than me or a sales assistant selling about 25 brands in an airport shop whether her comments hold water - it will be a big purchase for me. I have always regarded GP as one of the real high end manufacturers up there with Patek Philippe, Vacheron, AP, Breguet, JLC etc. I would certainly be extremely proud to own and wear a GP and don't want to be falsely put off by someone who may have another agenda or just isn't a fan of GP.

Sorry for the long post. Any comments and advice will be very welcome. thanks
