Agree with the others
If 40mm is your sweet spot, don’t go for the 42mm. You will regret it. 40mm is also my comfort spot for most watches. I think the Optimum wears bigger than most Journes. It definitely wears bigger than the 40mm Centigraphe (my favorite FPJ) since the bezel is narrower on the Optimum. Ultimately, I parted with the Optimum even though it is a gorgeous watch. It just wears too big for me even though I am fine with Centigraphe and Perpetual. Good luck in what you decide.

Thoughts in Chronometer Optimum 40 vs 42 mm.
I have a 7 inch /17 cm wrist..I have the possibility of purchasing a 42 mm platinum version. I am wondering how it wears on the wrist?. Usually I like dress watches to be no more that 40mm. Thanks CB

I’m trying to keep my emotions in check. I think 40 mm is the correct size but when a very nice 42 mm CO is possible it can be tough to maintain objectivity. I appreciate your help. CB

I think, most importantly- try both and see what you think works best for you! Personally I prefer 40mm. But my sweet spot for watches generally, is 38-40 mm.

That's what I thought from the pics. I would prefer a 42mm but not if it's just a thicker case. I would vote for the 40mm

Lug length is always a major consideration in addition to case diameter...
