Gone Fishing, Part 2 Sardines & Anchovies
Hello gents, this is part 2 of our early morning walk today.
We walked along the wharf and turned in at Tunaville run by Tommy Gomes the fish monger.

Unsurprisingly, they had fish! Tommy came out and talked with us for awhile.

He has procured the best selection of canned & jarred fish treats I have ever seen.

Check this out!

More!

Yes, we bought a few cans.

We didn’t buy a lobster though.

I was hungry for fish chowder, so as soon as we arrived home I started off browning some carrots, potatoes, golden beets, golden tomato.
I’m allergic to onions and getting intolerant of garlic, so these are my aromatic selections.

Some herbage from the garden makes it even more enticing.

and I had a bit of pork left from the other night’s tenderloin extravaganza.

I asked for a pound of mixed fish from the fresh catch this morning at Tunaville… this is a trick I learned when we lived in England. The fish monger is happy to make a deal, and it adds variety to the chowder.
I cook the fish gently first in the skillet, then add it to the vegetable with some milk, cream, butter or whatever.

Looked and smelled great! This is just the milk and olive oil, turned golden by the golden beets and carrots.

It was a treat with a few oyster crackers and a bit of sake.

I would have topped it with parsley but the swallowtail butterflies have taken over our parsley plants.

Just as we got ready to eat my wife shouted, “Get a picture” and I made it just in time.
Thanks for joining us on this morning’s walk.

PS - this other dish with fish nuggets on lettuce is fun too. Just roll them in a spoonful each of flour, corn meal and panko crumbs (whatever you have) and cook for a few minutes in olive oil. This has persimmon on top.
