To buy an F.P. Journe watch is not impossible as some would make it out to be, but there is a process before you can make the purchase. The process is something that has gradually evolved since watches became objects of speculation some years ago. They have had to tighten and then tighten some more because the brand has no patience with flippers and are quite thorough when they choose whom to allocate to. They want to sell to the real collectors and build a long term relationship. Of course this doesn’t mean that mistakes are not happening but I think it’s overall a good and fair one. I have seen less wealthy newcomers to the brand being chosen over those who just show up, throwing an cc on the table and say sell me what you have in stock… there is no stock! They want to know who buys their watches and that they are sincere about keeping them.
Now to answer your question.
First you need to establish a relationship with a boutique or one of their retailers. This means showing up in person and explaining what it is you are looking for. You may have to come by a couple of times and get to know each other.
They will not sell you one of their complicated pieces as a first watch. So you can not buy a Resonance as a first. You will have to work your way up. Getting an allocation for a Resonance is something reserved for the longer term clients. There are plenty of those who have been waiting years to get their Resonance after finally getting the thumbs up on an allocation. I think the typical wait time can be a couple of years depending on the production plan. The watches are typically made in small batches and if you miss a spot in a batch you might have to wait longer.
Of course, if you don’t have patience, time ect for this kind of process there is the auctions, second hand market ect. And you will be paying a premium. C’est la vie!

they are very honest vs brands smile AP in my experience. I haven’t talked to them since early 2020 though so maybe some stuff has changed.
It is a bit weird
There are people who want to buy a watch for themselves and it is not sold to them. Simultaneously there are same watches for sale over the retail at the secondary market.

I love FPJ. And like most brands you can’t start with more complicated pieces.
My suggestion is to get on line for a CS or a simple octa or elegante. After acquiring several pieces you can probably get on line for a CR. It’s a journey. And that’s the best part. I’ve loved everything about this experience. So never minded waiting for...
