I'm just thinking out "loud", but maybe you can help with my self-brainstorming process... I would like to add my first Lange to my collection during 2010. I have been doubting about several models and I think I have narrowed down the election to four possible models. All of them with their pros and cons.
1) Richard Lange
Pros: reasonable size (40.5mm when normally I say 40mm is my minimum), simplicity and elegance...
Cons: too simple? I like complications, in general, although I very much know how to enjoy my Aquanaut... However, simple watches tend to suffer more in value over time...or do they?
2) Lange 1 Moonphase
Pros: is there a more beautiful design in the world? Simple, but with a few nice complications (large date, moonphase, power reserve)
Cons: size...38.5mm, i am a bit scared about. I enjoy the 39mm of my Patek 5146 but i have to admit it takes me time to adapt, especially when I am changing from one of my PAMs (Luminor 44mm, larger I can't wear). I am not sure if visibility is also an issue: I am beginning to suffer from "old sight" (that is how we call in Spanish when you have problems seeing from short distance, I am sure there is a more appropriate word in English).
3) Lange Timezone
Pros: nice size even for a Paneristi, beautiful design, one of my most useful complications (I am always travelling)
Cons: visibility? too much information in the dial makes up for little space for each of them. Especially I don't think I will be able to see the cities around the bezel. But I guess it is just a question of looking hard once, when you have to change the timezone.
4) The new 1815
Pros: like the Richard Lange, reasonable size and simplicity and elegance. I think I like better the central seconds hand, but... Is there any other relevant difference between the RL and the 1815?
Cons: again, too simple? Depreciation?
Thanks in advance for your help and your suggestions, my friends.
