Horological Meandering

Superlative Black Strap Weekend Watch

For many years, I tended to allocate the majority of my watch funds to weekday/dress watches, and spent considerably less on weekend watches.  I predicated this disparate allocation on the notion that weekend watches are exposed to greater risk of damage.  However, as I have observed in other threads, the reality is that I am very careful with both my weekday and weekend watches and, with few exceptions, my weekend watches are no more likely to be damaged than my weekday watches ( when I engage in high risk activities, I strap on my beater).

Based on the foregoing I purchased a Richard Mille RM004 last month as a weekend watch.  This was a considerable step up from my prior weekend pieces.  Ever since, the RM004 has occupied the majority of my weekend wrist time.  I absolutely love this watch!

Given my overwhelmingly positive experience with the RM004, I have decided to purchase another knockout weekend watch, but this time in a white metal or ceramic, and with a black strap (to compliment my RM004 in RG with a brown strap) . . . something that will really captivate me.

I initially considered the JLC AMVOX3:

Unfortunately, it did not live up to my expectations in the metal.  There was something about the overall presentation that left me unfulfilled.

I also considered the Harry Winston Z3:

Unfortunately, it too did not live up to expectations in the metal.

I considered purchasing another Sonata:

However, I am bothered by the numerical designation engraved on the bezel.

I considered the Patek 5960p:

But it is smaller than I would prefer for this particular application.

I really like ceramic watches, which of course leads one to consider the original IWC Ceramic Doppel:

However, I personally am bothered by the stainless pushers protruding from the ceramic case (they look like antennas).

So where does that leave me?  Well, I have been contemplating the Panerai 317 for a long time.

I love the case, but I am concerned that the dial may be a tad busy.

The GO ceramic perpetual is also nice:

But I am concerned that it lacks pizzaz.

Speaking of GOs, I am also considering the Senator Split Second Chrono:

This is a very interesting option.

Speaking of split second chronos, I am also considering the Lange Double Split:

However, I already own the Lange Datograph Perpetual.  Moreover, I go back and forth about the dial on the Double Split – it is somewhat dry.

I stumbled upon the Parmigiani Pershing Chrono SE in Palladium:

I really like this watch!!!  However, I have never seen one in the metal.  I am going to try on a similar SS model shortly.  I am, however, concerned a bit about depreciation with this watch (given my short attention span, I do not want to buy a watch that is nearly impossible to sell down the line).

Finally, a good friend suggested that I take a look at the McGonigle Tourbillon:

I am absolutely floored by this watch!!!!  However, I am not sure if it works as a week end watch.  I have considered  converting my Lange Datograph Perpetual to weekend duty, and buying the McGonigle for the weekdays.

So there it is – my thought process to date.  I am really interested in your opinions regarding the foregoing pieces that are still on my radar screen (the Parmigiani, GO, Lange, Panerai, McGonigle).  Please also recommend any other options you think I should consider.

Thanks for your input,

Craig
