Spotted: All but Red

Here are the cars we saw yesterday that could not be fitted into the category of Red(ish).

I will start with one that pleased me and which I am proud to call the cleanest gardener's truck ever. In our area there are two kinds of landscape maintenance men: the macho ones with raised white Ford Diesel Pickups with fancy trailers, and everyone else who uses an old disreputable pickup, station wagon or sedan. This truck falls into the latter category but it's the nicest small Toyota I've ever seen.

Here is a typical "donor" truck which gets repurposed as the gardener's vehicle:

My candidate for cleanest truck, spotted on the highway:

Short wheelbase - rear springs start almost under driver's backside

The body was straight, the paint gleaming, the wood nicely stained - ok, enough with this let's move on

There also seemed to be a flurry of 65 Chevys on the highway so I will move on to the cars we had to chase to photograph:

I took this next shot using my outside rear view mirror (we were not in a Commonwealth country or former colony)

although I think his plate says British Columbia

Everything went wacky from here, with a series of ratty old station wagons, all in a row.

Chevy

Rambler

Oldsmobile

Mercury

Land Rover Defender could be considered a station wagon, couldn't it?

But what's this? Two in one day, only a few blocks apart?  Where's RoverMark? We need an explanation...

Maybe there's something about being a Navy Pilot that drives one to a Land Rover?

Moving on towards pickups, I found this lovely 1970 GMC "Sierra Grande"

Two-tone paint, lavish "chrome" and a woodgrain stripe as well. (The flag is on the house, not the truck)

Now this 4x4 Chevy truck with canvas shell is more of what I expect from a Navy guy

Keeping in the monotone vein, here's a slightly rat-rodded Chevy truck

A monstrous Ford dual cab long wheelbase 4x4, the kind that local women drive down to Whole Foods to pick up a bottle of Vitamin Water.

For those patient El Camino-loving PuristS, it was a pretty good day too. This on the street

This guy driving (sorry, an obstacle hindered our photography)

but here's his back side

and this one in the parking lot (my wife was talking to the owner and captured the Fiat photo-mobile in the shot)

This is a photo from a couple years ago, but I love it, so I'm throwing it in for El Camino fans (RED!)

Sixties Mustangs were a bit thin today, with only this tree-hugging one

And this long range spotting

We did catch this old Ford turned into a real estate agent's promo vehicle

A final 56 Chevy, and we are finished with the domestics for today

but continuing down the alleyways, we found a Spridget

a modified Triumph

A VW-based dune buggy on the corner

and a Bimmer 2002 to close things out.

My college roommate bought one of these new, in about 1970-71. Sheesh.

I hope that you were able to find one or two that you enjoyed. I might take a day off but never fear, there are many left that we haven't seen yet.

Cheers,

Cazalea
