Horological Meandering

Saturday and Sunday, a Purist Gentleman

Howdy fellow Purists of the Horological Shire,

two days back, I brought you the Monday to Friday horological life of a fellow Purists Gentleman. Weekdays are typically days of corporate slavery and business pursuits, and weekends are leisurely pursuits of hobbies, family and friends. Featuring my weekend wristwear choices and accompanying "tasting notes", again for lack of a better description; and instead of daily quote, some activity description.

This Tag Heuer Autavia "remake" is a wonderful copy of the Ref 2446 from 1966, made fanous by the wrists of F1 champion Jochen Rindt. notable is also Biver's decision to let democracy rule...by popular vote on which of the 16 vintage references to base the new Autavia on. Horo-trivial pursuit : Autavia is actually a cross between Automobile and Aviation...very convenient. Breakfast on table is a cross sample of local Peranakan cruisine, a branch of cooking of Straits Settlement Chinese, who often incorporate local indigenous ingredients from Malay and Indonesian sources and spices.

Bermudas and sippers time with the HUGE 57.5mm Zenith Aeronaft, this example being a limited edition of 15 pieces made for retailer Zegg and Cerlati, out of 250 movements produced. The chronometer spec caliber 5011 made from 2012, is a legacy old school low beat movement prevalent in the 1960s, and boy, is it LOUD!! if you look close enough, you will post swimming wrinkled skin smile- and also the reflection of my mobile phone, a generic China brand OPPO, nothing of the fancy Apples or Samsungs used here. actually, all photos i post on Purists are taken with this trusty mobile phone, and my previous model lasted me three years with no issues.

Next up is probably one of the least favourite Rolex : the 44mm Yachtmaster II in steel. substantially more heft then the ubiquitous Submariner and cousins, even its junior YM. I don't do regatta, the 10 min counter however is good for COOKING!!! really meant for extroverts, the arguably distasteful YACHTMASTER written in CAPITAL letters, and pompous sounding bezel christained  by Rolex as "Command Bezel". In the background is my Nissan GTR set to Rolex Racing mode smile-

Since we are oin big watches, why not also my aging nicely Audermar Piguet Shaq. Created for the sporting legend Shaquille O'Neal, note the reverse order 2 and 3 o'clock hour marker to reflect the number 32 shirt he wore with the Miami Heats. stupid thing was his Lakers number was 34....AP could have just stuck to regular programming!

whats a weekend without some audio component....smile- the seriously capable KEF Blade speakers....always set to stun mode.

and of course the caffeine trials.....Journe Chronomtre Bleu with some Indie coffee. This Journe is the most affordable of all Journes, and strangely, IMHO the second most appealing Journe!! often viewed as a starter Journe, I humbly disagree and the humblest of Journe has got pretty much horo-legitimacy. paired with often overlooked Javanese beans. the Javanero is processed by a cooperative of roughly 180-200 farmers.

Tuna time with appropriate Seiko Prospex Kinetic PADI edition. super legible...huge hour markers with Seki patented LumiBrite coating and capable of diving to 200m. this is one of those indestructable watches, and as far removed from haute horology as possible, just a hair breathe away from full quartz. Don't now why i need a GMT for diving, but whatever......

And of course, the Purist Gentleman couldn't possibly not tend to his watch collection, apologies for the poor photo quality. Some minor cleaning, a bit of winding here and there. These Omegas will be story of another day, a story that involves my grandfather, a secretary, newspapers and a Rolex Daytona..... smile-

Best, Horo
