RM004 All Grey vs WG

 

I previously owned an RM004 in Titanium, then sold it about a year and a half ago. Well, the watch bug has bitten again and I am thinking I want to add an RM again to my stash, possibly an 004 again (this is the only model that truly appeals other than the basic RM010)

My question pertains to those of you that have this model in white gold: what do you feel about the durability/hardness of this case material vs titanium, and in particular the new all-grey titanium finish? One thing that I found with the Ti is that it scuffs quite easily. I don't necessarily mind that as it is part of normal wear but on the other hand I don't want to own a watch that will get all dinged up too easily at this price level. Given the shape of the RM cases this seems to be a particular risk factor.

Is it true that the all-grey finish would protect from surface scuffs that might otherwise show up on the bare metal cases? If so, this might make it more desirable. I would prefer to buy a nicely kept pre-owned piece and the all-greys don't seem to show up much ..

with the finish. this thing doesnt scratch easily at all i mean im more of a scratch magnet than my watches and this one seems to survive me. the normal Ti case would pick up scratches more for sure but so does the WG and is even more prone to hairlines a... 

Will All Grey Darken over time?

Do you think the All Grey finish will darken over time? I recently compared a RM004 Ti All Grey and RM005FM Ti (new unused and still wrapped up). Both are micro-blasted Titanium but the RM005FM Ti seems to be one shade darker than the All Grey. I guessing... 

I would take Riddler's word on the durability of the surface...

however, if you get a major ding, then the whole surface for the all grey would have to be re-finished. In that sense, the brushed white gold surface would be a little easier. You would still need to finish the whole thing, but the brushed finish is easie...

You are absolutely right Andrew. My friend had an All Grey and dinged it and had to send it back to the factory to be resurfaced. The AG is a lovely finish but i think the WG is more practical and i like a bit of weight. The way to go with RM i think is t...
